2020 Holiday Gift Guide - Good Design + Art

Just so you know, by “good design,” I mean colorful, graphic, fun design and art. If your jam is more along the minimal, subtle, monochromatic lines, you can probably skip what’s to come.

Risotto Studio’s 2021 Mini Calendar

I love calendars. I like to make them, and I like to look at them. Risotto Studio’s mini calendar is one of my all time favorites. RISOTTO is “Scotland’s leading risograph print specialist, and stationery company led by designer, Gabriella Marcella.” And, in case you’re wondering what Risograph is, it is “similar to screen-printing, using rich spot colours and stencils to create tactile and vibrant prints, affordably and with little impact to our environment.”

Did someone say rich colors, vibrant prints, affordable, and low impact? Sign me up!

Risotto also makes lovely cards and prints of previous year’s calendar pages, so be sure to look at everything they do!

Lisa Congdon’s book, We Are The Change

Lisa  Congdon works for clients around the world and is featured in the 2017 book, 200 Women Who Will Change the Way you See the World because she is that cool.

Lisa Congdon’s work is colorful, inspiring, and fun, and this book is the perfect gift for your favorite social justice warrior.

Lisa’s store also has prints and socks and notebooks and pens and more books and tote bags and scarves and much, much more artsy goodness, so you must look at everything and follow her everywhere.

Prints from Blanca Gomez

Blanca Gomez is an artist and illustrator living in Madrid, Spain. She illustrates for clients around the world and for her own shop.

Her work is sweet, colorful, delightful and whimsical and always makes me smile. Her prints would be lovely in a child’s room, but I would put them everywhere.

And waddya know? She has a calendar, too! You should look at everything she has, too.

Art School Totes from Ampersand Design Studio

Ampersand Design Studio is the colorful and graphic world created by close friends Carrie Kiefer & Morgan Georgie. They named their business after the ampersand because the ampersand is the symbol that connects two formerly separate elements, and typesetters historically used the symbol as a way to infuse fun and personality into a font.

Ampersand’s work is notoriously colorful and graphic and largely made up of wonderful shapes.

Know someone who carries things? Check out these gorgeous canvas totes.

You can find all sorts of colorful things in their shop though. They’ve got napkins, pins, onesies, tshirts, wall art, cards, table ware and more.

MOMA Dusen Dusen Tissue Box

No self-respecting, design-focussed gift guide could skip out on The Museum of Modern Art’s Design Store, so I’ve included this little gem.

The Dusen Dusen Everybody Tissue Box is the perfect gift for anyone who suffers from allergies or gets sick a lot or just sneezes sometimes.

2020 is the perfect year for this gift, right? Who wouldn’t want to be cheered up by this when they feel terrible? Plus, there’s a matching waste basket where your favorite sneezer can throw all of those tissues!

Happy Gifting!
